Go Green Part 2: Challenges

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Going green and making the effort to create a more sustainable environment – especially in the workplace – is surely a worthy cause. In many instances, waste and energy savings can also translate to cost savings, but even so, some transformations can make quite a dent in the budget. Here at Chameleon, we try to be equally budget-conscious and environmentally friendly. However, we are also limited by the fact that we reside in a large office complex and have relatively little control over the premises as a whole. How do we continue to grow our green business practices? Here are a few of our ideas.

Power down

The first, and one of the simplest, things to do is to make sure to turn off lights when not in use. This should be a no-brainer. We are lucky to have some huge windows to let in natural light, but we try to make use of smaller floor lamps rather than having the overhead fluorescents on all the time. In some areas, we even remove a few of the bulbs that we don’t need. We also make it a policy to turn off monitors and power down other electronics, as well as to unplug non-essentials like extra lamps and heaters.

Use less, waste less

In addition to saving energy, we do our best to reduce our waste output. In an office like ours, that means trying to use less paper. Utilizing double-sided printing, re-using old pages as scratch paper, and converting to more electronic documents are all easy and cost-effective methods. We recycle as much as we can, too, including electronics and other office supplies. One other way to reduce consumption is to keep a precise inventory of supplies – there is greater potential for buying unneeded supplies when you don’t know what you already have.

There are so many different ways for a business to be more sustainable these days that it can be overwhelming – even if you have been at it for a while. The thing to remember, though, is that every little bit does count, so even the smallest efforts are important. Create a plan that fits your budget and focus on doing whatever is feasible. Measure your efforts as you would with any goal-oriented project. Green resources will undoubtedly become cheaper and more easily accessible, so those bigger modifications may not be as far off as you think!

A Holiday Greeting

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

How do you send a fun holiday message to as many of your clients and contacts as possible without generating any paper waste? Film a video or create an electronic greeting! This year, we wanted to utilize social media and remain environmentally conscious, so we made a short video clip of our entire internal staff to wish everyone a joyous holiday season.

We have had a great year here at Chameleon, and we’re very excited for 2012! Our team will continue to grow in the coming year, and we are all looking forward to working with even more top talent and other local businesses. Happy holidays to all, and best wishes for the new year!

Chameleon is celebrating 10 Years! And, we’re sharing our secrets for success.

This year, Chameleon is proudly celebrating our tenth year in business, and we’ve learned many lessons.  Here’s a few of our top tips for achieving business success. We hope other growing businesses can benefit and join us in accomplishing such an amazing milestone.

Enjoy What You Do!

We truly enjoy technology – it is fun to be a part of an industry that is constantly changing and forcing you to learn. And technical recruiting is never boring due to ongoing expansion of opportunities and new positions that keep us constantly on the lookout for new talent and clients.

Be Resilient

You must be ready for anything and everything. We learned early on that things are constantly changing within any business and you’ve got to be prepared.  There will be high times, low times and even seemly insurmountable challenges.  You’ve got to know you will be able to handle them and come out even stronger.

Remember Why You Started Your Business

Stay true to your core values.  Remember that you started your business with a certain set of values and an end goal in mind.  Maintain these values and it will keep the core of your company intact.

Ask For Feedback

It’s been a crucial part of our business to continually ask for feedback from clients and contractors.  Using a variety of methods including LinkedIn, quarterly surveys and 1:1 meetings on a monthly or bi-monthly basis we seek to gain an understanding of what we are doing well and could be doing better.

Celebrate Your Milestones

We marked 10 years in business by acknowledging our staff and clients in writing and in-person with gifts of gratitude.  We also took our internal staff plus their dates to El Gauchos for a large celebration with champagne, steaks and goodies galore. Celebrating your success is incredibly important in honoring hard work and dedication.
